Jura Mountains and surrounding areas
A holiday between the Jura and Doubs Regions is the opportunity to observe diverse natural landscapes. The Jura region offers a panorama of plains, lakes and wooded mountains.
It is also an opportunity to discover an outstanding built heritage. Near your accommodation, there are three sites which has been classified by UNESCO Heritage :
- the citadel of Besançon (Doubs), one of the masterpieces of Vauban
- the Saline Royale d’Arc-et-Senans (Doubs), built by the architect Claude-Nicolas Ledoux,
- the Grande Saline de Salins (Jura)
Furthermore, our region counts others sites classified as Unesco heritage :
- the stilt houses of Chalain and Clairvaux lakes (prehistoric houses)
- Côte d’Or: l’abbaye de Fontenay,
- Yonne department : the basilica of Vézelay.
Wines & Gastronomy
Our region is famous for wines. Amongst the most known, Jura wines, Burgundy wines, Beaujolais, … Coming to Burgundy-Franche-Comté is an opportunity to visit different vineyards, to have access to different grape varieties but also 25% of the AOC in France.
Do not miss our specialties such as Cancoillotte, Comté, Mont d’Or, three famous cheeses, or the sausage of Morteau or Montbéliard. Indeed, various recipes based primarily on cheese and cold cuts are to be discovered sprinkled with our Jura wines.
The village of Boussières
The municipality of Boussières is probably one of the oldest regional territories populated by man. Two bronze age bracelets have been discovered in this area, Roman coins and a Merovingian cemetery. Therefore, we have no doubt that the human species was already living on the Boussières site from 5th century.
The village bell is an historical monument.
It is one of the rare monuments in Franche-Comté dating from the first Romanesque age ( XI century).
The village has about 1100 inhabitants. Although small, the village offers some services a grocery store, a bakery, a bar, a medical home, a pharmacy and a hairdresser.
Near village , at 3 km from our accommodation, you can find a supermarket that is open every day until 8p.m and Sunday mornings.
Your accommodation
Set in the heights of Boussières village, in a property of 40 acres, on the edge of the Forest of Chaux, Les Gîtes de l’Orée du Bois are composed by six modern cottages designed by an architect of Jura.
From our site, you have directly access to a trekking path and a sport path that starts in the site.
On the ground floor there is an open space with living room of 30 m2 and kitchen, the bathroom and separate toilet. On the first floor, you will find two bedrooms.
In addition, you have a private terrace, an ideal place for recharging one’s batteries thanks to beautiful sunsets and thanks to the tranquility of the forest.
